Centrifugal cast iron pump impeller working principle:
The main function of the impeller is to transfer the energy from the motor. The motor drives the pump to transfer energy to the fluid being pumped. This is achieved by rotating the impeller at high speed. This creates centrifugal force, which moves the fluid outward from the center of the impeller and into the discharge port of the pump.

When to choose which impeller type?
Choosing the right impeller type depends on the application and the fluid being pumped. For example,
Open impellers are suitable for low-viscosity fluids that do not contain suspended solids.
Whereas closed impellers are suitable for pumping fluids containing solids.
The choice of impeller type should also take into account the required flow rate, efficiency, maintenance, and cost.
Open impellers are ideal for pumping clean fluids that do not contain solids or particles. On the contrary, closed impellers are suitable for pumping fluids containing solids as they prevent clogging.
Semi-open impellers are a hybrid of open and closed impellers.
Dimpled impellers are designed for pumping fluids with a high solids content.
On the other hand, vortex impellers are used for pumping fluids with a high gas content.
